Works

Lists typically request combinations of movements of a single stand alone piece or combinations of pieces from within a collection in an abbreviated form. For example, a list might ask for the following:

• Mozart Concerto No. 3 in Eb (K. 447), mvt 1&2 or 2&3
• Ten Easy Tunes: numbers 1-4, any 2

Although there are only five pieces being requested here, Mozart’s concerto plus the four in Ten Easy Tunes, there are eight possible combinations of pieces requested. I will refer to a single performable entity as a "work". A work can include a single piece in its entirety, a movement of a piece, or combinations of movements or combinations of pieces. The seven possible works requested above are:

• Mozart Concerto No. 3 in Eb (K. 447), Mvt 1&2
• Mozart Concerto No. 3 in Eb (K. 447), Mvt 2&3
• Ten Easy Tunes: #1&2
• Ten Easy Tunes: #1&3
• Ten Easy Tunes: #1&4
• Ten Easy Tunes: #2&3
• Ten Easy Tunes: #2&4
• Ten Easy Tunes: #3&4
